  • Longtime Forsyth County Commissioner Richard Linville is running for re-election in District B, and he wants your vote and your support. “Most of the ideas I have for the future are the same as in the past. You have a few things that you have to provide funding for. One of the important things is the operation of the health department. That includes EMS services and ambulance services. You have to provide for law enforcement and the fire department. Outside the city it is provided by volunteer fire departments and I think everyone one of them has full-time staff. All of those systems are going well in my opinion. Of course, you have the public schools and Forsyth Tech. The educational facilities we have are important. I will still look at the basic things that are needed. I am not one to add new things to make government bigger, unless it increases efficiency,” Linville said.   • On December 12, 2023, the Kernersville Fire Rescue Department (KFRD) held their annual award ceremony to celebrate the sacrifice, commitment, hard work and determination for the people who work in their department.   • On Thursday, January 11, the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Board of Education voted to move the start of the 2024-2025 school year two weeks earlier to August 12, breaking the law of a North Carolina state mandate NCGS 115C-84.2 that states that no school will start earlier than the Monday before August 26. The WS/FCS Board of Education voted 6-3 for the change in the academic calendar. Board members Robert Barr, Leah Crowley and Richard Watts voted against the change.   • Winston-Salem’s Ralf Walters, a Republican, is one of ten candidates running for one of three Forsyth County Commissioners District B seats and he wants your vote and support. “I am running for Forsyth County commissioner because it’s time for fresh ideas and new leadership. Serving on the County Board shouldn’t be a job for life. Two incumbents have served for decades. One was first elected in 1980, and the other 1998. Forsyth County’s annual budget is $569 million. If it were a private corporation, it would hire the best. Construction of the Kernersville Recreation & Event Center, an $18.3 million project that will provide a myriad of sports, recreation and other options, is moving quickly.
