Andover Foundation for
Archaeological Research
AFAR is a nonprofit scientific organization founded in 1984 by pioneering archaeologist Richard “Scotty” MacNeish. MacNeish’s student, University of Hawaii archaeologist Barry Rolett has served as AFAR President since 1996. Our mission is to pursue archaeological research through the involvement of local communities and the general public. We currently run field projects in French Polynesia.
Tahuata, in the Marquesas Islands, is the location of our ongoing project.
