About AFI Cybernetics

AFI was founded in Elmira, NY in October of 1984 by Ken Doyle. At that time, all shop operations were performed in Ken's single car garage, and all office functions were performed in Ken's basement.

Originally known as Automation For Industry, our name was changed to AFI Cybernetics Corporation upon incorporation in November of 1986.

In 1985 AFI moved to its current location and has undergone a number of expansions. Our current production space totals 16,500 square feet with an additional 5,000 square feet of storage space and 4,500 square feet of office space.

Engineering

Using expertise born of experience, we engineer control systems built for manufacturability and easy servicing.

We can specify off-the-shelf modular components for pop-in replacement and ensured availability.

On those projects designed by our customers, we give our input and the benefit of our experience to improve serviceability and optimize space utilization.
CAD Services

AFI can provide complete mechanical and electrical CAD drawing packages, material lists, and manufacturing specifications.

Utilizing design packages such as AutoCAD, our CAD services can range from two-dimensional layout drawings and schematics to three-dimensional solid models for mechanical assembly drawings.

All documentation is provided to the customer, in the form of both paper hardcopies as well as on disk, and all records are also maintained by AFI for ongoing support.
Fabrication

AFI offers complete services to provide fully-assembled control systems using state-of-the-art components and manufacturing techniques.

Industrial enclosures may be fabricated in an endless variety of sizes, materials, NEMA ratings, and finishes to suit your application.

Whenever possible AFI uses commercially available enclosures by brand names such as Hoffman and Rittal to provide you with the most cost-effective control system possible.
Painting

Our in-house paint booth allows us to provide custom enclosure colors as well as finishes to suit our customers' specifications.

AFI also offers contract painting as a stand-alone service.
Production

From one unit to large volume runs, we can meet any need for control panel production.

We provide systems that vary greatly in application and complexity. The simplest of these might be a pushbutton station, wire harness, or modified starter panel. A more complex system may include a variety of electro-mechanical devices and programmable logic controllers (PLC) interfaced to a supervisory system to control a whole plant or process.

In any case, whether the quantity is one or hundreds, your design or ours, AFI has the capability to meet your needs.
Software

Many of the systems we build use programmable logic controllers (PLCs), along with operator interfaces and supervisory software systems.

Using software packages such as Allen Bradley RSLogix 5000 and Factory Talk View Studio to name a few, our application engineers write, document and test software to meet your requirements.
Engraving

AFI can also fulfill your requirements for labels, signs and other engravable items. Our computerized engraving system can produce artwork in an almost endless variety of sizes and shapes.

Available materials range from plastics to ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Testing

We don't consider a job done until it's been thoroughly and intensely tested. The testing of a final control system includes inspection for overall appearance, point to point wiring checks, and a fully functional simulation whenever possible.

Upon request, onsite installation support is provided for your system startup when required to assure a smooth transition into productive operation.
