When picking up the rental car, the agent will reserve an amount on the driver’s credit card for the deductible as a deposit in case of an accident. The withheld amount will be refunded when you return the car undamaged. It may take a few days to process your refund.

You can buy excess insurance when you book through us, or when you arrive at your destination.

If you purchase a deductible insurance policy through us, you will still need to pay a deductible deposit directly to the car rental company.

If the car is damaged, you can make a claim for reimbursement of the excess through our insurance provider.

How to get a cheap car rental in Spain

To save money, it’s important to make the right car rental choices before you travel, because the wrong choice can be very expensive.

Here are five ways to rent the car you want at a price you can afford:

1. Always pre-book your car rental in Spain online

It’s always cheaper to pre-book a rental car than going to the rental desk at the airport or even walking into the head office in the city. And you haven’t even factored in the cost of a taxi to the hotel before you can pop into the office to check the costs.

Prices can vary as much as 75 percent depending on how early you book, so pre-book early to save as much as possible.

2. Don’t be fooled by high deductibles

While a deductible insurance policy is a must to protect you in a worst-case scenario, not all deductibles are created equal. Car rental companies can charge up to 40% of the original price of the rental car for this type of insurance and only provide partial coverage. To avoid this, you should take out your own comprehensive insurance in advance.

Do your research and buy an independent insurance policy with full coverage. Prices can start as low as €2 per day. You can book comprehensive insurance on our website before checkout or choose a third-party provider.

3. If you bring your children, bring their car seats

Car rental companies make almost as much money selling you additional services as they do renting out the car.

All additional services cost money, and child car seats are an additional service. For some services, the price for a week can be as high as €60, and you’ll probably still have to install it yourself.

Be prepared and bring a seat that both you and your child are familiar with.

4. Say no to satellite navigation when booking a rental car

Whether you use iPhone or Android, you already have access to what is probably a better map and a system you’re familiar with.

Spend less money on a local sim card and data package. Not only will it be much cheaper, but you can also make local calls if you need to. You can even add the cost of a local guidebook and still come out ahead.

5. Check the fuel coverage of your rental car

When booking your car rental online, check the different companies’ fuel return policies and choose the cheapest one.

Many car rental companies have what they call a full-empty policy. Simply put, you get the rental car with a full tank and are expected to return it empty. While it may seem practical, it can be expensive. The car rental company expects you to pay extra to fill up your tank.

If you don’t want to pay for this convenience, it’s much cheaper to fill up your rental car yourself before returning it. Make sure to check and mark the level before you drive off.
