The workings of nature have intrigued man since the dawn of civilization. At the heart of the understanding of nature is physics, or natural philosophy as it was known in Newton's time. As the Nineteenth Century drew to a close, it became clear that the world-view we inherited from Newton was not complete. Two great changes were on the horizon, in the form of relativity and quantum mechanics. Einstein had a hand in both, though his principal contribution was creation of the theory of relativity.

On the other hand, calculus has withstood the test of time since Isaac Newton invented it to understand gravitation and the clockwork of our Universe. The mathematical tools Newton invented have served us for 350 years.

These are the ideas that have shaped our understanding of the Universe. Without them, we would know little of our origins or of our destiny.
