Our Misson

Kmetko & Associates, Ltd. is a licensed private child welfare agency. We are committed to enhancing the lives of children and their families by working with state agencies who wish to place children with Illinois families. We collaborate with other agencies, provide assessments of potential family resources, and work directly with families when children are placed.

Our Story

The Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children (ICPC) requires states to provide courtesy child welfare services on behalf of children who are legally children in care of other states, when such services are requested. In 1990, Tom Kmetko began providing Interstate services under contract with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (IDCFS). The following year, Tom hired social workers to assist in the completion of home studies. This was the beginning of the agency now known as Kmetko & Associates, Ltd.  While initially preparing home studies in 1990, the agency now provides adoption conversion studies, licensing studies, and supervision services.

We receive over 600 requests a year for home studies and supervise over 220 children placed with Illinois caregivers. Our goal is to provide comprehensive and timely reports as well as quality services. We remain committed to advocating on behalf of families and working cooperatively with other agencies, both public and private.
