With the Cobra Brushless Aircraft Speed Controllers, three of the programming options can be changed with the throttle stick on your transmitter. To be able to program all of the features available on the Cobra Speed Controllers, the Cobra ESC Programming Card is required.
NOTE: The Cobra Programming Card is only for use with the Aircraft Versions of Cobra Speed Controllers. These can easily be identified by a green stripe down the center of the label and have part numbers that start with "DL". This program card does not work with the Cobra Multirotor Speed Controllers. These can easily be identified by an all-black label, and part numbers that start with "MR".
The Programming Card is very easy to use, you simply set the six programming jumpers to the desired settings and plug the programming card into the control lead on your ESC. Then, with a motor connected to the ESC, plug in the motor battery and wait a couple seconds. After you hear the confirmation tone, unplug the battery and the programming is complete! To complete the process, unplug the Programming Card for the ESC, and plug the control lead back into the throttle channel on your radio receiver.
With the Cobra ESC Programming Card, you can access all of the programming features available in the speed controller. These features include:
Battery Type: Three different types of battery chemistry are supported, Li-Po/Li-Ion, Ni-Cad/Ni-MH and Li-Fe/A123. (The default setting is Li-Po/Li-Ion cells)
Cut-off Voltage Level: For each battery chemistry there are three different Low Voltage cut-off levels available, High, Medium and low. For Li-Po/Li-Ion cells 3.2, 3.0 or 2.8 volts per cell can be selected. For NiCad/Ni-MH cells 0.9, 0.8 or 0.6 volts per cell can be selected. For Li-Fe/A123 cells, 2.8, 2.5 or 2.2 volts per cell can be selected. (The default setting is the Medium setting for each battery chemistry)
LVC Cut-off Type: When the selected Low Voltage level is reached, the ESC can be set to provide either a Hard Cut-off or a Power Reduction Mode. (The default setting is Power Reduction Mode)
Brake Level: The Brake Level can be set to one of three levels. Hard Brake, which is used with folding type props, Medium Brake, which is used with normal props or Off, if the user desires to have the prop free-wheel when the ESC is in the idle condition. (The Default setting is Medium Brake level)
Timing Mode: The ESC Timing can be set to one of three values, Auto to let the ESC determine the best setting for the motor that it is driving, High to get maximum power and performance from high pole count outrunner motors or Low for economic performance and use with low pole count outrunners or inrunner type motors. (The default setting is Auto Timing)
Motor Acceleration Rate: The Motor Acceleration Rate can be set to one of three values. High is for use in planes where immediate throttle response is desired, such as 3D type aircraft. Medium is for normal sport flying to get smooth throttle transitions when power changes are made. Low is for models with very large props, or motors that are used in gearbox applications to prevent high power pulses that could strip out the gears. (The default setting is Medium Acceleration rate)
Cobra Speed Controllers are designed with a relentless pursuit of exceptional product quality. These speed controllers are the perfect complement to a Cobra Brushless motor, and they will also work with virtually any other brushless motor on the market as well. Cobra Speed Controllers are built from the best components available to provide the user with long life and trouble-free operation.
Cobra Speed Controllers are simple to program, and in most cases, they can be used right out of the package. Three of the Speed Controller parameters can be set without a programming card: Brake Mode, Battery Type, and Timing mode. The remaining parameters can be set with the optional ESC Programming Card, which is available separately.
All of the Cobra Speed Controllers come with an internal BEC circuit to power your radio receiver and servos. This 150A model comes with a 5.5 volt switching BEC rated for 6 amps of current to handle the power needs of the larger digital servos.
Because of the wide range of different motor connectors used on this size speed controller, the Cobra 100A ESC comes without any bullet connectors already installed. The motor leads are pre-tinned and ready to solder on your favorite connectors. 5mm or larger bullet connectors are recommended for this size speed controller.

Feature Overview
You'll never have to set charge preferences for a Spektrum Smart battery until you want to. When a Spektrum Smart LiPo battery is connected to a Spektrum Smart charger, unique parameters and health of that Smart LiPo battery upload from the Smart memory microchip integrated into the battery. Through the charger, you can view and set preferences, such as charge rates, so that all you have to do to charge the pack every time is press the charger "Start" button. Smart technology takes care of the rest.
Every Smart LiPo battery is factory assembled with the next-generation IC3(TM) or IC5(TM) output connector that's conveniently compatible with older devices equipped with robust EC3(TM) and EC5(TM) connectors. You can use Smart Batteries with older systems, but only when connected to a Spektrum Smart device will all the benefits of Smart technology become obvious.
Spektrum Smart LiPo Batteries Store Unique Data, such as:
Battery Brand
Battery Type
Battery Capacity
Battery C Rating
Individual Cell Voltage
Battery Temperature
Charge/Discharge Cycles
Spektrum Smart LiPo batteries also maintain an error log including the number of over-heat, over-discharge and over-charge incidents which can be helpful data in assuring that the battery you've chosen is right for the application. A Smart Battery uploads its charge parameters to a Spektrum Smart Charger automatically making charging as simple as pressing the "Start" button. The charge rate of every Smart Battery is customizable, allowing you to take full advantage of packs with faster charge ratings.
Smart Battery Technology
When connected to a Spektrum Smart charger, unique parameters and health of your Smart LiPo battery upload from the Smart memory microchip integrated into the battery. Through the charger, you can set and record preferred settings, such as charge rates and self-discharge options, so that all you have to do to charge the pack is press the "start" button. Smart technology will take care of the rest. Every Smart LiPo battery is factory assembled with the next-generation IC3(TM) and IC5(TM) output connector that utilizes a data transfer wire to relay saved information to your Smart Chargers.
Data Rich
An integrated microchip allows each Smart Battery to save vital information such as battery brand, chemistry, cell count, capacity, number of charging cycles, number of discharges, C rating, battery temperature, and internal resistance. Additionally, each battery will save a log of unhealthy events such as over-charge, over-discharge, and over-temperature. This allows you to make the most informed decision about each battery when you are getting your gear ready for a day at the field or the track.
Simple and Quick
Preset charge, discharge, and storage parameters are automatically relayed to a Spektrum Smart Charger making charging as simple as pressing the "start" button. Charge rate of individual batteries can be user customized allowing you to take full advantage of packs with faster charge ratings. The integrated microchip on each battery will remember the last charging rate you set, so the next time you plug it in, these settings will automatically populate so all you have to do is press "Start."
New IC3 & IC5 Connectors
The innovative Smart connection is made possible by an installed microchip on every battery, feeding the unique information through a data cable to the new IC3 and IC5 connectors. The IC series of connectors are designed from the ground up to provide a more solid connection, higher heat resistance, and effortless installation. For those using the popular EC3 and EC5 connectors, there's no need to worry. The IC connector series is entirely backwards compatible with existing connectors so you can use Smart Batteries with older systems, but only when connected to a Spektrum Smart device are all the benefits of Smart technology obvious.
Smart Discharge
LiPo batteries with Spektrum Smart(TM) technology practically take care of themselves. When programmed with a Spektrum Smart Charger, Smart Batteries will automatically discharge to your predetermined storage voltage when they are left to rest for a time period you choose, between 12 and 240 hours. This feature will help to extend the life of your Smart Batteries by preventing your batteries from sitting fully charged for an extended period of time, which can damage the chemical integrity of Lithium Polymer cells. This unique feature results in longer battery life expectancy and better performance over the life of the pack.
Extremely Lightweight Fiberglass Fabric woven cloth. Wets out clear. Great for RC airplanes. Used as a surface layer or in hobby industry, commonly used on model airplanes Hobby lightweight plain weave fabric.
An advanced trainer that's so much fun, it's SPOOKY!
When we designed the GHOST, we envisioned a trainer that could do more than the typical boring trainer. The GHOST needed to offer you the opportunity to train, advance, and even have fun - all with the same airframe. And that's just what we've accomplished.
To start, the GHOST has been designed as an easy-to-build model with a wealth of laser-cut parts. Actually, most every part used in the GHOST's construction is already pre-cut for you out of hand-selected lite-ply and balsa woods.
The wing is a flat-bottomed airfoil which is a cinch to build using our exclusive laser-cut WEB-LOCK construction that not only gives you proper rib spacing, but also holds each rib at a true 90? to the building surface, without the need for additional tools.
The fuselage is also an easy build as we've engineered the fuselage sides with slots to lock in each former at the right spot - and angle. Also, we've integrated our Multi-Size Servo mounts into the fuselage sides which makes mounting the rudder, elevator, servos a breeze (and throttle - if using glow).
Power can come from either glow or electric powerplants and there's a large, magnetic, top hatch which gives you quick access to the batteries and/or fuel tank.
At first, the GHOST might appear to be just a Good Honest Old School Trainer. But as they say "Wait, there's more!".
Flaps are included - a first for an OSMW kit. These are quite effective and can slow the GHOST to a crawl in the air. Choose to install them during the initial build, or they can be added at any other time - even after you've flown the GHOST for a while!
The GHOST's tall and wide main gear makes taking off from paved or grass surfaces quite easy. Throttle up, and you'll find the GHOST takes to the air in a surprisingly short rollout.
At lower throttle settings, the GHOST is slow and stable in the air, making it easy for a new pilot to learn how to navigate the skies. Throttle up the GHOST a bit and you'll start to open up more capabilities, including some fun barnstorming. At even higher speeds, the GHOST can perform a surprising amount of aerobatics to wow the crowds.
And all of this with the same airframe that many would write off as "simply a trainer".
Even when the wind gets a bit gusty, the GHOST's smooth flying characteristics will give you the confidence you need. When it comes time to land, simply lower the throttle and gently glide down to the runway. Again, no surprises, which is just what you want in any design.
And after you've mastered flying the GHOST, add to it's capabilities by adding in one of our Fun Fly Bay kits (available separately). Once assembled, these kits will bolt up through the bottom of the GHOST's fuselage. Like the GHOSTS's flaps, these kits can be added (or swapped out) at any time - even after you've flown for a while. For more information on these kits, check out the right hand column.
