This gallery tells the story of Howard Carter's link with Swaffham and how his life here lead him to finding the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922.

This updated and exciting gallery provides lots of information about Carter and the Ancient Egyptians. Howard Carter's extended family lived in Swaffham and he spent much of his childhood growing up in our town. This gallery tells the story of his link with Swaffham and how his life here lead him to finding the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922.

Hear Howard Carter reading from his diary and see Egyptian artefacts from the time of Tutankhamun on loan to us from the British Museum.

Always popular with our visitors, young and old alike, this display also provides engaging activities for children.

Admission

  • Adults: £4
  • Young person 5-18: £2
  • Family (1 or 2 adults & children): £9
  • No charge for Under 5's, Friends of Swaffham Heritage, National Art Pass Holders and Accompanying carers
  • Food and drink are not to be consumed on the premises and Assistance dogs are permitted.

Free entry donation days: The Museum is open, free of admission charges, on Saturday 17th February, 9th and 16th March 2024. Any donation you wish to make on these days would be greatly appreciated.
