The United Food and Commercial Workers Union is North America’s largest and strongest private sector union. The UFCW is made up of 1.4 million members — people working together to improve their lives and their future. UFCW members are employed in many different industries, but concentrated in retail food, meatpacking, poultry, and other food processing industries. Whenever American families sit down to share a meal, chances are, most of what they’ll eat has passed through the hands of the more than one million UFCW members who work in these industries.

About the Fund

At the UFCW National Health and Welfare Fund we service only UFCW members, their families and retirees. The Fund, which has been a self insured fund since 1955, was formed to work closely with the International Union through its Negotiated Benefits Department in order to stay in touch with rapidly changing developments affecting the issues and benefits important to our members.

The Fund is governed by the board of Trustees comprised of both labor and management trustees. To see a list of these Trustees and the other professional who serve the fund click here.

I really appreciated your assistance. 

I have to reach out and let you know what excellent customer service your employee Pete Gonzalez Jr provided.  Every year, with adult dependents on our plan, we are sent the form that we need to fill out. Thankfully and most gracious I got on the phone with PETE GONZALEZ JR.  He was so very helpful.  He understood the frustration of all we have to do to get this [Adult Dependent Certification] form back. I asked him if he could email the form and he was happy to do so. He even said for me to fill it out and email it back to him and he would personally follow up on the claims to be processed. I did not have high hopes of hearing from him again but oh my goodness he exceeded my expectations. He has kept me informed of every step and every claim. He is following up when the last claim is reprocessed.  This is above and beyond what I had expected anyone to do. He is just wonderful and I hope that he gets the attention for his wonderful customer service skills. I told him this via email and he was so kind to say that my thank you was enough for him but I had to let someone know what a catch they have in an employee.

We have had Blue Cross/UFCW insurance for many years and I have not written a comment because I am a private person, but I feel like I have to. Over the years, I have had many health issues and have needed help a lot. I understand I can be a handful and get nervous and anxious. I want to let your management team know that I have dealt with a lot of staff who have been very helpful to me Luz, Susan, but I have to tell you Marcia has been so amazing!!! I understand that it is insurance and claims and etc, etc, and Marcia knows that I get frustrated and nervous and she knows how to calm me, she talks to me and treats me like a human being and a person, and that means a lot!! Thank You

I wanted to let you know that my husband and I have been so impressed with the amazing customer service Suanne has provided to us. Her timeliness in processing claims for us has been above and beyond.  Also, when we have questions, she is always there for us.  She’s helpful, friendly, and responsive.

I will also add that the previous representative we were working with, I believe her name was Jenny was also the same.  She always went above and beyond.  It is always nice to know you have support when dealing with health care, especially if it is not your area of expertise.  I thought you would like to have this feedback.

My name is Alan Bowers.  I am currently on staff at UFCW Local 791 …  Prior to my staff position, I was a Union Rep in our Methuen location since the inception of “The Fund.”  Overall, I have been satisfied with the level of service we receive from the reps at the fund office.  In the beginning, Libby seemed to be the rep I was always channeled to, and she was great.

Now to the personal experience for me, and my family over the past couple of years… I’m compelled to recognize, and bring to your attention the excellence of service provided to us by your claim’s rep Sueanne M…  I have to say that Sueanne is a consummate professional!  She has a firm grip on Fund benefits and requirements, as well as resolution solutions.  She is very attentive and communitive.  …, we are deeply grateful for the care and professionalism we receive when we reach out to her for our medical care.  In Solidarity.
