“I recently completed another successful outfitting season here in the Yukon, our 38th. This was actually my 51st year in the mountains, as I started my career way back in 1972 as a horse wrangler in the Cassiar Mountains. During this time period, I have hosted over 1200 hunters from many countries and cultures, as well as providing employment for about 220 guides, wranglers, cooks and expeditors. It has not always been “smooth sailing” but by in large all the dreams of my youth have been fulfilled.
I leave a rich legacy of hunting memories for both myself and many others. In November, I will be be 68 years old and officially RETIRED at the end of the month.
The new outfitting concession owners will be Ben Stourac (the outfitter) and Tavis Molnar (partner). Ben worked for me during the 2009, 2010 and 2011 seasons as a guide. He is very familiar with the area. Tavis runs Arctic Red River Outfitters, an adjacent outfitting area in the NWT and is well known in the outfitting world. I am very confident that the new owners will provide an exceptional experience for hunters and continue the legacy of wilderness protection and sound wildlife management that Widrig Outfitters has followed. This sale is a good fit for everyone!
So, on December 1st , this web site will be transferred to the new owners, and renamed Iron North Outfitting Ltd. I wish them nothing but success and happiness in their new endeavor. Joanne and I are really looking forward to the next step in our life, a retirement home on the ocean, lots of travel, exceptional wine and visits from family and friends! I really must thank all the clients who have chosen to hunt with us over the years. More than a few have come up multiple times (one from Louisiana ten times). Also “hats off” to the many loyal guides and cooks who spent multiple seasons with us. It’s been quite a ride!”
