Whether young, old or too old, sick or lean, one who discards laziness, gets success if he practices Yoga. ... by merely reading books on Yoga, one can never get success. Success cannot be attained by adopting a particular dress. It cannot be gained by telling tales. Practice alone is the means to success.
    Yogin Swatmarama, Hatha Yoga Pradipika
What is Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga is an ancient Indian system for keeping the body in an optimal physical condition. Originally developed to liberate mind from the burden of the body in order to pursue spiritual ends, Hatha Yoga is especially well suited for people doing intellectual work.

Practicing Yoga consists mostly in performing asanas, static postures. Yoga stresses development of flexibility, health of the joints. Special attention is payed to health, flexibility, and strength of the spine. Unique feature of Yoga are exercises stimulating hormonal glands and performing massage of internal organs. This stimulation of the hormonal system helps to balance emotions and acquire a more optimistic attitude to life. In addition to physical exercise, Yoga includes methods for purification of internal organs and establishes principles of proper nutrition.

Yoga prevents countless ailments and gives relief from existing ones. The practice of the postures strengthens the body and creates a feeling of well-being. Yoga sharpens the intellect and aids mental concentration.
