I have had dogs my entire life.  They were my companions, they consoled me, they taught me. I loved them all. But when I discovered agility in 1995 with my Sheltie, Micah, a new door of enlightenment opened. Never did I imagine the incredible bonding with a dog that developed through our agility training from puppyhood. A new training with fun, play and excitement that created a much better understanding of each other. The thrill of subltle nuances a dog reads as we direct him through an agility course at top speed. True partners, true team mates. That was in place through daily life. And…..at the end of the day, when the dog lays by your side and looks into your eyes. The look of comaraderie, satisfaction and love. The bond runs deep. Deep into my soul.

When I bought my Aussie the breeder told me that Aussies need a “job”.  We went biking and hiking together. I took him to my soccer games.  He went everywhere with me.  It wasn’t until a few months into agility training that I understood.  I saw a difference in him…a more enthusiastic, happy side.  He told me that agility was his job that he does…with me.
