The 25th running of 70 Wild Miles Glencoe took place on 1st June 2013.
Given the current situation that the event is without organisers since the founding members John Ian Allan, Gordon Gooch, Ray Brown and Brian Read 'retired' after their long term involvement dating back to 1989 it was a small and informal affair. The 'Team' comprised all of the founding organisers plus family and friends pictured above.

Event Report:
Ray Brown participated in all three sections including canoeing up loch Etive with John Allan in a Canadian canoe. Colin Macartney joined them in the canoe for a short paddle (two strokes) before early retirement. Brian Read completed the running section whilst Cameron Read (aged 11) covered the 13 mile running route both up and down Glen Etive on his bike covering 26 miles.
Becky Read (aged 8) and Amy Gooch (aged 6) completed the running section in reverse direction on their bikes with Gordon and Sandra Gooch cycling too.
Fiona Bryce and Sharon Alderson also completed the run route by bike.
Safety cover was provided by Bob Sharp and Gordon Gooch with their boats (two rescues boats for one canoe the highest ratio in the history of the event!)
Bert McMinn (former Coxswain of the Mallaig lifeboat) with his wife Janette provided cycle and run section back up on his BMW 1300 motor bike.
Not forgetting First Aid cover from Linda Brown.

As usual a great day out with much fun had by all helpers and competitors. Thanks to those in attendance and also to the many many people who have supported 70 Wild Miles Glencoe over the 25 years.

It is hoped that for 2014 suitable organisers and a charity may step forward to work together to bring the event back onto the scene to run in the unique atmosphere it has had since 1989. Any such interested parties should make contact via Gordon at gogig@aol.com

The 70 Wild Miles event has supported a number of charities through its history. Including; Cancer Research, Cystic Fibrosis Research, Tenovus and CLIC Sargent.

70 Wild Miles -THE MILLION POUND charity event.

For all the competitors, helpers, sponsors and their families a big well done.  Over the years you have managed to collect £1m for the nominated charities. This is a fantastic milestone in the history of the event and one which you should all be very very proud off.

It is with deep regret that CLIC Sargent have had to cancel the 2012 70 Wild Miles event in Glencoe.  CLIC Sargent have been the organising charity behind this event since 2005. As the founders of 70 Wild Miles, we are obviously very sad to see the event in Glencoe cancelled. However, we do wish CLIC Sergeant every success in continuing with the 70 Wild Miles event they organise in Northern Ireland.

For the first time in the events 24 year history, there will be no annual 70 Wild Miles in Glencoe. We are looking to engage with another charity to organise and support an event in Glencoe in 2014 and are ever hopeful that this can be achieved and the tradition of this unique Highland triathlon can continue to support those less fortunate than ourselves.

The Fermanagh event is in support of CLIC Sargent (NI).

The Bala event is to support Tenovus and American Sign Letters
