2023 Marching Band Show Reveal
2nd Annual Clark County Bandapalooza
The 2nd Annual Clark County Bandapalooza will be held at Robert D. Campbell Middle School on Saturday, May 13 at 11AM. This will feature performances from all Baker Intermediate, RDC, and GRC Bands and Jazz Bands. There will also be a car show and food trucks! Bring a lawn chair and enjoy!
2021 Marching Band Information Night!!!
The 2021 Marching Band Information night will be on Tuesday, April 20 at 6:30 PM in the GRC Auditorium. This meeting is for ALL students who participate in band at GRC.
Why it is important to come?
- We will be discussing the schedule requirements and financial details for the 2021 Marching Band Season.
- We will be going over what you need to be prepared for this Summer for Band Camp.
- We will be announcing the 2021 Marching Band Show!!!
The band students at GRC will have lots of wonderful opportunities this upcoming year and we are excited to get started!

Tuesday and Wednesday’s Assignments
Drum Major and Section Leader Candidates:
Please take the pre-test so that we can set a baseline of where you are coming into the training. After taking the pre test, watch and participate with the video from Bobby Lambert, Director of Bands at Wnado HS in South Carolina on behalf of Music For All and Bands of America. After you watch the video, take the Formative Test. Please do this by Tuesday Night at Midnight. We will get together via Zoom to discuss the video and the test results on Wednesday.

2022 Marching Band Camp Dates and Information
Band Camp will be held at GRC during the following weeks and times:
July 18-22 from 8-5 (Lunch Provided)
July 25-29 from 8-5 (Lunch Provided)
August 1-5 from 8-12
Plan to bring water bottles, binders with sheet protectors, instrument, music, hats, sunglasses, etc.
Fight Song Recording Project
Here’s what to do:
- Have up your music for the fight song
- Play along to the audio recording above
- Use headphones and STAY WITH THE METRONOME
- Record yourself using your phone – Please record in LANDSCAPE (sideways, not vertical)
- Email your file to director@grcband.com
- Try to do this TODAY! This is an experiment before we try to do some other more complicated things in the future
- Take as many takes as you need to get it right. Make sure you play with the correct space and style, or it won’t line up.
- Start with the pickups to “A”, as always.
CCPS named 2020 Best Community for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation
Clark County Public Schools has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. CCPS is one of 5 districts in Kentucky receiving this distinction.
Now in its 21st year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students. To qualify for the Best Communities designation, CCPS answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music programs, Responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.

Marching Band Official Group Photo
On Tuesday, February 11, the GRC Marching Band celebrated the opening of our new gymnasium with an official group photograph.
Parents are welcome to reproduce this photo – it is free to all band families.
Props and (Used) Instruments for Sale
GRC is selling our 2019 show props. The ramps, modeled after the Bluecoats prop from their breakout “Tilt” show, feature a steel frame with wood paneling. The paneling has been painted white – however you will want to replace it. There are a total of (10) 15′ props. $7,000 for the set.
All items must be declared surplus by our Board of Education. Contact Michael Payne at director@grcband.com form more information.
We are also selling off our remaining Conn 20k Sousaphones and King Marching Baritones. The sousaphones are approximately 20 years old and are in good working condition.
We have:
- (3) Conn 20K Sousaphones – $2,500 each
- All are in playable shape, but are an overhaul and chem clean away from being awesome. Comes with case.
- (5) King 1124 Small Bore Marching Baritones – $800 each
- New in mid 2000’s, all playable, but show varying degrees of wear.
Lastly, we are also selling a 6′ Command Center Podium. $300. It works great, but has been welded into performance position and does not fold up. Fits easily on a semi truck or many band trailers. Easy to store instruments underneath. Small 4′ command center podium seen in the picture is free to a good home. Just needs some TLC.

Contest of Champions Class A Champs!
The GRC Marching Band finished first out of 8 bands in the 57th Annual Contest of Champions, winning their class for the first time in a decade. The band also placed 9th out of all 28 bands, just missing out on a finals appearance (top 8).
Congratulations to all of our students, parents, and alumni for their support this season.

As of this week, the GRC Band will no longer be using the Charms database service. Instead, we will be utilizing a few new resources.

- BAND – GRC Bands’ “BAND” – This app is pretty nifty. A great place to ask questions, view the calendar, post pictures. There are sub groups for parent volunteers to communicate as well.
