Every Time I Feel the Spirit

It’s good to be back! I’m so grateful for the gift of sacred time with my family as we welcomed our newest member, Jude, into the world. And I’m grateful, too, for the gift of the Spirit, which keeps us connected with each other in Christian love, across time and distance.

As our congregation journeys together from Easter to Pentecost, we are taking some time to reflect on the Holy Spirit. How do you experience the Spirit in your life and in the life of our faith community? Sometimes, the Spirit may bring a sense of energy, vitality, and enthusiasm, in shouted “Hallelujah” and song of praise. Other times, the Spirit may move in quieter ways, offering assurance, peace, and centering. Sometimes, the Spirit is that quiet voice praying for us when we don’t have words to pray ourselves, speaking in “sighs too deep for words” (Romans 8:27).

However we feel the Spirit, we know some things to be true of the way the Spirit shapes us and sends us into the world. The Spirit empowers us to announce good news to the poor, release to the captives, freedom for the oppressed, and the Jubilee forgiveness of debts (Luke 4:18-19). The Spirit grows fruit of love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). The Spirit enables us to proclaim Jesus as the center of our lives, Lord of all, and manifests itself for the common good (1 Corinthians 12:3-7). We look for this kind of evidence of God’s work in our midst...every time we feel the Spirit!

And it’s good to know we can hope for these gifts every time we feel the Spirit, because we have some time changes coming up soon! On May 25th and 26th, we’ll switch to our summer worship schedule, with Saturday service at 5:00 p.m. and one combined Sunday service at 10:00 a.m. Stay tuned for more news about some exciting happenings coming up this summer—and may every time we gather be a sacred time to feel the Spirit!

ZOOM PRAYER AND FELLOWSHIP - WEDNESDAYS AT 6:30 P.M.

We hope you will join us at 6:30 p.m. On Wednesday evenings for a half-hour of prayer and fellowship. We come together to lean upon each other, to share our hearts joys and concerns and to offer up to God our lives in faithfulness. Being together, even at a distance, is communion.

Sojourners Zoom Sunday School Classes

This year, we will study the New Testament Book of Philemon, provide an overview of Psalms, then begin a study of Isaiah, one of the Books of the Old Testament that is most quoted in the New Testament.

Sojourner Sunday School Classes are available in person every Sunday at BACC and are also available live, online through Zoom.
