Welcome

We would like to welcome you to Central Woodward Christian Church of Troy, Michigan. We are a congregation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and are part of the Michigan Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

We seek to be a welcoming, thoughtful, compassionate, progressive, nurturing, community of faith. As Disciples, we are committed to the principles of Christian unity, freedom of conscience, and the priesthood of all believers. We seek to follow the teachings of Scripture, but recognize that we will not all have the same interpretation of it, therefore we grant each other freedom in interpretation and application. Central Woodward Christian Church has a long history of ministry in metro-Detroit, a ministry that began in 1928 on Woodward Avenue in Detroit, Central Woodward has been doing ministry from the corner of Big Beaver Road and Adams in Troy, Michigan for more than 30 years. As we look into the future, we are committing ourselves to become a missional congregation, one that continues our long term commitment to ministering in the metro-Detroit area, but most specifically to minister to and with our closest neighbors in and around Troy.

On April 18, 2016 the Council of the Congregation, upon recommendation of the Elders (who discerned a consensus among members meeting in their clusters on April 17), voted to become an Open and Affirming Congregation. Below is the Inclusion Statement for the congregation, declaring our desire to become a more fully inclusive congregation.

We are an open and affirming congregation, striving to reflect God’s unconditional love for all God’s good creation. Acknowledging that Christianity has been used historically and presently to justify oppression, we covenant with God and one another to provide a loving invitation to all who seek to follow Jesus, welcoming them into the full life and service of the church. We celebrate diversities of race, ages, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, nationality, ethnicity, marital status, physical and mental abilities, family configuration, political affiliation, economic circumstance or theological perspective. We offer hospitality, healing and hope to all who have been traditionally marginalized, ignored or excluded from the body of Christ.

Our congregation has been served by Rev. Zach Martin since September 2023.

We invite you to worship and serve with us the God revealed to us by Jesus Christ.
