A Message from Pastor Richard

Mere Christianity .jpg

“I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.”- CS Lewis

C.S. Lewis has always been one of my favorite authors, and his book Mere Christianity was very important for my faith formation. I am not alone in this. So many have read this book as an introduction to the Christian faith.

But Mere Christianity is also a book to read for practicing Christians as well. I find that I turn back to it every couple of years, and I always seem to learn something new that I missed the previous times I’ve read it.

You’re invited to join me in reading Mere Christianity once again. I have always wanted to lead a discussion on this famous book, and this summer that’s what I’m planning to do. I hope you will join me.

Right now, the plan is to meet the last Thursday evening of each month from June-August (June 27, July 25, and August 29). I’m still trying to figure out other details, but we hope to meet at the church or someone’s house and have dinner together as a part of this discussion.

If you are interested and want to learn more, there will be an informational session on Tuesday, May 21 at 5:30pm on zoom. I will send a zoom link over email closer to that date. If you cannot make that session and would like to join the discussion, email me at richard@churchofthehills.com.

I look forward to having a wonderful summer book discussion!

May the Love of God be with you,

Pastor Richard

Love in Action

Featured Mission of the Month

Please join Pastor Richard and members of the Love In Action team Wednesday, May 8, in showing our support for the youth in our community and Resilience 1220.

RESILIENCE 1220

re·sil·ience /rəˈzilÄ“É™ns/
the capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness.

Love In Action is excited to continue our partnership with Resilience 1220,  a vital, quickly growing, local organization that empowers young people and their families in our mountain communities to build resilience, strength, and the tools to master life's challenges. What does Resilience 1220 do to make this partnership more and more important to Church of the Hills and the Love In Action outreach each year?

Resilience1220 provides free counseling services to youth ages 12-20 in the mountain communities west of Denver. Through individual counseling, support groups and community outreach, they work to raise awareness of the social, emotional, and mental-health issues young adults face, and to provide the necessary life skills to create wellness and resiliency in their lives. Counseling sessions with Resilience1220 teach stress-reduction techniques, tools to ask for and provide help, validation, a place to sort through belief systems, and a non-judgmental place (for clients) to share their feelings. Resilience1220 fosters an environment of mutual respect in which staff, clients, and volunteers can feel valued. They seek to serve all members of our community, without regard to gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, age, sexual orientation or identity, abilities, political affiliation, or education. They are open to all and see diversity as a source of strength.

“Love in Action” is the Church of the Hills mission team.  The primary goal of the Love in Action Team is to serve the needs of others locally, nationally and internationally. The people of Church of the Hills are blessed with unique gifts; although the size of our congregation is smaller, sharing these gifts remains a vital part of our outreach ministry.

The “Love in Action” Committee will guide us to be Christ’s faithful Witnesses. As such, we will share a deep life of service, and participate in God’s mission to care for the needs of the sick, the poor, and the lonely to establish Christ’s just, loving, and peaceable rule in the world.
