South Central Katahdin Association

(SCKA) - Katahdin Hair Sheep

South Central Katahdin Association (SCKA) is a regional group of Katahdin hair sheep breeders covering states from Texas to Georgia – including Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. Each representative of our association is a member of Katahdin Hair Sheep International (KHSI). Formed in 1999 in New Iberia, LA, what started with a small group of Katahdin hair sheep breeders representing the Gulf Coast states has now grown to a membership in these fourteen states. The goal of the South Central Katahdin Association is threefold: To provide a marketing alliance for all members of the SCKA, To provide fellowship for our association, and To assist breeders of the Katahdin Hair Sheep in the sale and promotion of the breed. Thank you for visiting our website! And a note: If a visitor contacts one of our members from our site, please remember that all sales agreements are between you and the individual selling their sheep.

President’s Message

Hello all! By now everyone has heard of our upcoming SCKA meeting and private treaty sale May 17 and 18 in Fayetteville, AR. A new president will take over as my 2nd term ends. I hope they will have your help and support as you have given me. I stated when I started my 2nd term that changes were coming, not everyone would be happy as is the case with any family. It has been my responsibility as president to make decisions that would benefit the SCKA as a whole, not just a few. I feel that with the hard work of the board we are soaring to new heights. At the end of the day, we are here to promote Katahdin sheep and to encourage and spread knowledge to others. I hope to see y'all at Fayetteville. From the white barn to you, it has been an honor to serve as your president of the SCKA. Jim Hill

Vice President’s Message

Greetings everyone. I hope everyone who has lambed is experiencing good results with their lambs. The spring grasses, thanks to the rain and warming temperatures, are lush and are an asset for the lactating ewes and their lambs. We are less than a month from our annual meeting and private treaty sale. We are wrapping up a few loose ends to have everything ready for everyone that can make the event. Hope to see you there to what I think will be a great meeting. Angeliki Polles, Vice President
