About  The Artist

Award-winning New York City artist Joan Rothchild Hardin is known for her luscious, custom hand painted tiles. In 2008 she branched out to add a sophisticated line of one-of-a-kind designer mirrors incorporating her art tiles, upholstery fabrics, exotic textiles, decorative nail heads, and paint.

"Over the years I've expressed my love of lush color and texture in my ceramic tile art work. Influences on my work have been Silk Road and Japanese textiles, Persian and Indian carpet designs and French  Impressionist painters
like Matisse, Cassatt, Bonnard, Monet and Vuillard. I love the way
well-designed materials imbue a room with a feeling of comfort and happiness.

The values of the mid-19th century Arts and Crafts Movement in Britain have always spoken to me  - craftsmanship stressing the inherent beauty of materials, inspired by nature. Simplicity, utility and beauty. And comfort.

Some people find neutral colors soothing. I find combinations of saturated colors & a mixture of textures to be both stimulating and soothing."
