Counting Votes, Leaving Reality

Print

Much has been made in recent weeks that the presidential betrayal of Israel is in search of a few votes around Detroit.  Not sure the cost/benefit ratio works out on that one, but it is far from the only place where liberal policy math just does not work.   Consider the EV.

Marveling

You could see the aurora borealis in Alabama the other night!  Everyone marvels.  The news is all over it.  Pictures everywhere.  You would think it is was a miracle.  But it is not, it is a perfectly natural event – ions and energy interacting.  I mean we can predict it for crying out loud.  How miraculous is something we can predict?  And yet we have acted for the past couple of days as if fish had started riding bicycles and a Cleveland sports team has actually won something.

Is Wisdom Dead?

Print

When I grew up, old people were the voice of sanity and wisdom.  Young people were all spit and vinegar, but it was the old folks that had learned through hard won experience that things typically were not as bad as they seemed and that things had a way of working out.  But these days who knows.  Despite the fact that Israel is doing everything in their power to spare “civilians” (I still say that is a questionable designation in this war) as they invade Rafah, Octogenarian Joe Biden has betrayed them like Littlefinger betrayed pretty much everyone he dealt with in Game of ThronesAnd now comes the story of two octogenarians attacking an original copy of Magna Carte to draw attention their cause which is apparently to stop the use of fossil fuels.  No longer are we dealing with “young skulls full of mush” (nod to Rush) gluing themselves to some artwork in some European museum, nope, now it’s the old folks attacking the very roots of democracy.  And so, the so-called “wisdom of age” is no longer apparent.

Nanny State Geopolitics

If I have heard it once, I have heard it a thousand times, “We are not the world’s police force.”  And yet what would better describe Biden’s betrayal of Israel?  Is that not policing that particular war?  As I thought about it, I decided it’s close, but not perfect.

The Disastrous Biden Legacy

Print

I’ve been working up a post on just how bad the Biden administration legacy will be on non-Israel fronts, but Biden decides to double down.  This is old news by now, but seriously?!

President Joe Biden said for the first time Wednesday he would halt some shipments of American weapons to Israel – which he acknowledged have been used to kill civilians in Gaza – if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu orders a major invasion of the city of Rafah….

“I made it clear that if they go into Rafah – they haven’t gone in Rafah yet – if they go into Rafah, I’m not supplying the weapons that have been used historically to deal with Rafah, to deal with the cities – that deal with that problem,” Biden said.

And with that we have gone from being a stalwart ally to being a betrayer.  I stumble for an analogy.  Yueh in Dune?  Littlefinger in GoT?  Fredo in the Godfather?  Iago in Othello?  All fictional and therefore lack the gut punch quality of this move by Biden.

There Oughta Be A Test

This:

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, the only Palestinian member of Congress, is calling on the International Criminal Court to issue a warrant for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after Israeli forces seized Rafah in the Gaza Strip.

“There is nowhere safe in Gaza,” Ms. Tlaib, Michigan Democrat, said in a statement Tuesday.

“I urge the ICC to swiftly issue arrest warrants for Netanyahu and senior Israeli officials to finally hold them accountable for this genocide, as is obviously warranted by these well-documented violations of the Genocide Convention under international law,” she added.

The first thought that ran through my mind was, “Of course! We could have avoided the entirety of World War II if only we had arrested Hitler after the invasion of Poland!”  (Not that there is any actual comparison between Netanyahu and Hitler, for crying out loud.) I know, the ICC did not exist back in the late 1930’s, but that is not the point.  This’ll never happen.

Transcript:

HH: Apparently, Joe Biden wants Israel to share the land with Hamas. We’re going to talk about that with Senator Tom Cotton, who joins me now, the senator from Arkansas. Good morning, Senator. How are you?

TC: Good morning, Hugh. I’m well. I hope you’re well. I hope all your listeners are well, too. It’s good to be back on with you.

HH: We’ve got a couple new affiliates in Illinois, and so they haven’t heard you before. I will just tell them you’ve been doing this in the House and the Senate for a long time, and you never make a mistake on air, so don’t, they can’t listen for a faceplant. But you do faceplant on sports a lot, because you spent seven years in Boston. Are you a Celtics fan as well as a Red Sox fan?

TC: (laughing) No, Hugh, I’m really not an NBA or basketball fan anymore. I have to say, back in my youth, in the days of Michael Jordan and Larry Bird and Magic Johnson, it was by far my favorite sport. But over the last 20-25 years, it’s just fallen out of favor.

Zealousness Without Character Is Corruption

Print

So, the L.A. ADA charged with pursuing corrupt cops has been charged with corruption.  Her particular corruption is, “California Attorney General Rob Bonta charged ADA Teran with 11 felonies. She is accused of illegally accessing personnel records on 11 different police deputies.”  Essentially her crime is pursuing her aims beyond the bounds of reason and law.  She is/was overzealous.  We live in an age where some consider such single-minded, no-holds-barred pursuit of an aim as virtuous, which will most certainly be a major part of her defense.  But to me it indicates that we have lost our way.
