Prayer

the Blessed Virgin Mary
During the month of May, please join us in praying one Memorare per day for our parish and its ministries.

Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,

that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection,

implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence I fly unto thee,

O Virgin of virgins, my Mother.

To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful.

O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions,

but in thy mercy hear and answer me.

Amen.

Rita de Cascia (2004) Directed by Giorgio Capitani and starring Vittoria Belvedere. Famous as the patron of hopeless situations, St. Rita of Cascia is immortalized in this wonderful, deeply moving film about this beautiful woman who lived in Italy in the 14th century. Starring Vittoria Belvedere and Martin Crewes, this powerful story combines high drama, great love, deep betrayal, senseless tragedy, profound forgiveness and strong faith as it tells the story of this brave and loyal woman who married her knight, helped him overcome his dark past and convert to faith, happily bore him two children, and later endures immense pain as she loses everything in her life. She finds peace and new hope through generosity of a nearby convent of sisters, and with their help she develops a deep union with Christ that greatly inspires all who near her. Total run time is 3 hours. Movie is in English and Italian.

SEVENTH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR

In this week’s first reading we can see the attempt by the early Church to make sense of the recent happenings: Death and resurrection of Christ.: they tried to scrutinize the past for signs, indications, and clues. But when they came to look to the future of the Church and choose a successor to Judas, they nominate candidates and pray together for guidance and then they draw lots. Their faith and trust in God is so amazing. They are willing to take a risk in the name of Christ. They were determined to forge to the future with great trust in the Lord. It is from this that a pattern emerges of how the Holy Spirit will direct the community of believers to meet the demands/needs of a growing church. A growing Church has so many needs. Prayer, faithfulness, and community collaboration is key to meeting the needs and nurturing growth of a faith community. How do we face day-to-day challenges in our family, our parish and in our specific ministries? Do we see them as prayer opportunities? Do we pray to God and ask the Holy Spirit to enlighten us?

MAY 11/12 CENSUS LAUNCH DAY

Dear parish family.  As you have heard, the Diocese and Immaculate Conception are currently in the process of carrying out a census to collect updated contact information. This census is intended to strengthen pastoral care, stewardship, and enhance communications. We are going to kick off this exercise on May 12. Our hope is that we capture everyone. Your cooperation in this endeavor is greatly appreciated. The sooner we complete the process the better for our parish. The official end of the census is July 5.
