In recent years Elk Viewing and Hunting has become popular in Kentucky. In 1997 the Kentucky Dept of Fish and Wildlife started an Elk Restoration Project to establish Elk back into Kentucky. Kentucky ElkThe project has become such a success that Elk viewing trips are offer each fall in several locations in the south eastern 16 county restoration zone. The Elk Herd is now estimated to be around 10,000 animals.
