County roads and the $2.4B problem
As pothole season makes its annual return to Michigan county roads, the public is asking: How much does it take to restore our county road network?
County road agencies take care of 75% of Michigan centerline miles and 52% of the state’s bridges. It takes a lot of money to keep up with 90,000 miles of roads and almost 5,900 bridges, all of it 40…60…even 100 years old. The cost has jumped 28% in the last two years.
Just how much is detailed in the new 2023 County Road Investment Plan.
