Lord our God, when your Son was dying on the altar of the cross, he gave us as our mother the one he had chosen to be his own mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary; grant that we who call upon the holy name of Mary, our mother, with confidence in her protection may receive strength and comfort in all our needs.

Hospitalized or Homebound?

TO OUR PARISHIONERS

If you or a loved one are hospitalized or admitted to a Care Facility, please call the parish office so we can be informed. Father Jim can attempt to visit; however, permission to enter hospitals or nursing homes at this time is limited.

Father Jim is on the Hospice call list and often responds at the request of Hospice Staff. If homebound Parishioners are in need of Anointing, Father will safely respond.

If Parishioners are unable to attend Mass call the parish to arrange homebound Communion.

Requests can be called into the Rectory phone (719 561-1563). Father rarely answers because the number is usually used by telemarketers. Please leave a message on the answering machine and Father will return your call.

Teen Corner

As Christians, we want to be good Disciples of Jesus.
This Sunday’s Gospel reading helps us know what
will make us good Disciples.
Our relationship with
Jesus, the true vine, strengthens us to be Disciples, who
bear good fruit and give glory to God. This relationship
is strengthened when we read Scripture, when we pray,
and especially when we receive the Body and Blood of
Christ in Holy Communion.

Congratulations Shawn Valdez

We celebrate with Shawn Valdez and his family as Shawn
was confirmed on Monday, April 22 by Bishop Berg.

Volunteer Opportunities

Hospitality

Ministers of Hospitality are entrusted to foster a sense of welcoming

and belonging to those gathered to experience God in the

celebration of the Eucharist. Individuals, couples and families are

invited to become Ministers of Hospitality.

Extraordinary Ministers of Communion

Extraordinary Ministers of Communion are called to serve the

very life of the Church, the living Body of Christ, in helping in the

distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ. Required training

for these Ministers is scheduled once a year at our Parish and

Ministers are commissioned by the Bishop for three year terms.

EMs can also, if so chosen, carry Communion as an extension of

our Eucharist to shut-ins, nursing homes and hospitals.

Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion training lecture

Sacristans

A Sacristan is a commissioned Extraordinary Minister of Communion

who makes ready all that is needed for the celebration of

Mass: the sanctuary, altar table, bread and wine, and the vessels.

He or she also assists the Presider with the distribution of Holy

Communion and insures that all Liturgical Ministers are present.

Lectors

Those interested in participating in the Lector Ministry must understand

that proclaiming Scripture is much more than being a

good reader. The Lector must proclaim in such a way that all the

people will listen attentively and understand the Word of God.

Training is offered and practice is important.

Music -- Cantors & Accompanists

The Ministry of Cantor is open to anyone who is comfortable

and capable of leading the congregation in sung prayer.

Our Lady of the Meadows also welcomes experienced instrumentalists,

including pianists, who are willing to minister at liturgies.

Those individuals interested in participating in the Music Ministry

must be willing to commit to weekend Mass scheduling and

rehearsals needed for special Liturgies.

Altar Servers

The Ministry of serving at the altar is to assist the presider (priest)

at Mass, to lead procession in and out of the Worship area, to

prepare and clear the altar table. Girls and boys, Fifth grade and

older, can be a Server.

All Ministers must be committed to regular scheduling, early

arrival and substitution effort when unable to be present when

scheduled.

All Ministers will be asked to attend in-service sessions.

How can we protect our children when we don't respect life?

Mother Teresa   I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child - a direct killing of the innocent child - murder by the mother herself. And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another? How do we persuade a woman not to have an abortion? As always, we must persuade her with love, and we remind ourselves that love means to be willing to give until it hurts. --Blessed Teresa of Calcutta

I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Choose life, then, that you and your descendants may live, by loving the LORD, your God, obeying his voice, and holding fast to him. For that will mean life for you, a long life for you to live on the land which the LORD swore to your ancestors, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give to them. Dt 30:19-20

Let us Pray:

Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle,
be our protection against the malice and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him we humbly pray;
and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits
who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.
Amen.

The LORD bless you and keep you!
The LORD let his face shine upon you,
and be gracious to you!
The LORD look upon you kindly
and give you peace!

Prayers for the Deceased:

In your hands, O Lord, we humbly entrust our brothers and sisters.

Ronald James Courtney; Kevin Horne; Frances Davis; Jonathan Alfonso;
Loyola (Lil) Vasquez; Marian Radacy; Sam Stephens; Ruth Minson;

and all the deceased members of our parish, family, and friends

In this life you embraced them with your tender love;
deliver them now from every evil and bid them eternal rest.

The old order has passed away: welcome them into paradise,
where there will be no sorrow, no weeping or pain,
but fullness of Peace and Joy
with You, Your Son and The Holy Spirit
forever and ever.
Amen.

PEACE & JUSTICE

Remember to pray for peace every day at noon.

“The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: the Lord make his face shine
upon thee, and be gracious unto thee; the Lord lift up his
countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.”

APRIL

FOR THE ROLE OF WOMEN

We pray that the dignity and immense value of women be recognised in every culture, and for the end of discrimination that they experience in different parts of the world.

MAY

We pray that religious women and men, and seminarians, grow in their own vocations through their human, pastoral, spiritual and community formation, leading them to be credible witnesses to the Gospel.

  Fifth Sunday of Easter

April 28, 2024

I am the vine, you are the branches.
Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit,
because without me you can do nothing.
Anyone who does not remain in me will be thrown out like a branch and wither;
people will gather them and throw them into a fire and they will be burned.
If you remain in me and my words remain in you,
ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you

(Jn 15:5-7)

COLLECT PRAYER

Almighty ever-living God,
constantly accomplish the Paschal Mystery within us,
that those you were pleased to make new in Holy Baptism may,
under your protective care,
bear much fruit and come to the joys of life eternal.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
Who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God,
for ever and ever.

Prayer Warriors Needed!

Saturday Rosary

Every Saturday at noon, a group of people from various parishes in the city
gather across the street from the Carhart Killing Center (1930 E. Orman) to pray the Rosary.

All are welcome and encouraged to join them.

“When you say your Rosary, the angels rejoice, the Blessed Trinity delights in it, my Son finds joy in it too, and I myself am happier than you can possibly guess. After the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, there is nothing in the Church that I love as much as the Rosary.”

" Above all, let your love for one another be intense, because love covers a multitude of sins.
Be hospitable to one another without complaining.
As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God's varied grace.
Whoever preaches, let it be with the words of God; whoever serves, let it be with the strength that God supplies,
so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ,
to whom belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen
