Palos Pediatric Dentistry
We had a great experience at Palos Pediatric Dentistry. The staff is awesome, so friendly and helpful. They have been great with my 6 year old son and he loves going to see Dr. Facko. He has many mouth sensories and used to have problems going to the dentist. Since I have started taking him to Dr. Facko, the experience at the dentist has been great for us. Thank you to Dr. Facko and the staff for their kindness and patience with my son.

Welcome to our Palos Heights Pediatric Dental Practice!

At Palos Pediatric Dentistry, we believe each child is special. We cater our dentistry services to fit around your child’s unique oral health needs and personality. Dr. Richard Facko has years of experience serving families of all ages. His gentle and compassionate manner, coupled with his expertise and training, allows him to discuss dental matters with children in a way they trust and understand.

We begin seeing children as infants, right around the time of their first tooth eruption. This allows us to create a foundation for dental care right from the beginning. Because infants require specialized dental care, we like to see them early so we can go over the proper techniques to keep your child’s smile attractive and healthy.

Child-Focused Dental Care in the 60463 Area

At our Palos Heights pediatric dental office, we specialize in the dental care of infants and children. This gives us an advantage over other dentists because our experience with kids of all ages allows us to work with your child to provide care in a way that reduces their stress and anxiety but improves their dental health.

We use advanced behavior guidance techniques to calm your child and help them relax in order to receive treatment. We provide professional child dental cleanings to keep your child’s smile healthy and white. A child with dental problems at an early age may experience pain, discoloration, or premature tooth loss. These consequences can be detrimental to their health as well as their self-confidence.

Regular dental exams and preventative care can prevent costlier, more invasive treatment in the future. Dr. Facko places emphasis on early treatment and prevention for the best dental health. Our child cleanings are geared toward kids and are intended to be a fun and interactive experience. We not only provide care for your child but also help to educate both of you in order to support their overall health.

When treatment becomes necessary, Dr. Facko will explain all your options to you in detail. Some of the most common procedures required by children are tooth-colored fillings and dental sealants. Fillings are necessary in the presence of caries (decay). Once the decay is removed, a filling is placed to protect the tooth from food particles and bacteria. Dental sealants are a protective coating applied to the tooth to fill in deep grooves. They assist in the prevention of decay and usually cost less than fillings (and are often covered by your insurance). Dental sealants can last up to five years and can be replaced if necessary.

Unexpected Dental Trauma

Kids love to play and have fun. Occasionally, an accident happens, and a child damages a tooth. Dr. Richard Facko is skilled at diagnosing and treating tooth trauma. His goal is to preserve the tooth and to maintain functionality. If your child experiences dental trauma, notify our office as soon as possible so we can keep your child comfortable and healthy.

If your child is active or involved in regular sports activities, Dr. Facko may recommend a mouthguard to help protect their teeth and keep their smile healthy.

Keeping Your Child Comfortable

At Palos Pediatric Dentistry, we understand how critical it is to provide a comfortable and minimally invasive environment for our young patients. For children with anxiety, we may utilize sedation dentistry or general anesthesia to aid Dr. Facko during a dental procedure.

Children with extreme dental anxiety can make it difficult for Dr. Facko to safely complete a dental procedure if they move too much. Special needs patients may need extra attention in treating phobia and nervous behaviors. Dr. Facko can observe your child and recommend the most conservative approach in treating your child gently.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is an incredibly reliable and secure mild sedation therapy. After inhalation, your child immediately feels relaxed, and anxiety melts away. Once the dental procedure is completed, the mask is removed, and your child awakens quickly without any side effects or lingering grogginess.

Nitrous oxide is mild and safe, allowing your child to experience a dream-like state that will enable them to remain awake and communicative without any feelings of stress or fear. While they are aware during their procedure, they will be able to relax enough to allow Dr. Facko access to their mouth without any tension.

If your child fidgets often or has mild anxiety about getting a dental treatment, nitrous oxide is a popular sedative that helps with your child’s oral health procedures.

Pediatric Special Needs Dentistry

We love all of our patients, including children who need a little extra attention. At Palos Pediatric Dentistry, we understand that everyone’s dental needs and treatments are different, and we are equipped to handle every level of care.

From mild impairment to more significant needs, we can create a customized treatment plan that addresses your child’s oral health needs and hygiene routine. Dr. Facko is highly trained in gentle and caring dentistry that all our patients love.

We form a team with parents to address home hygiene routines, regular dental check-ups, and compassionate, pleasant communication. Patients with special needs may need treatment beyond the scope of other patients, possibly due to impaired motor skills or communication challenges that make at-home care more difficult. Together we can prevent gum disease and tooth decay. If your child has endured dental trauma due to an accident, seizure, or another incident, we provide emergency dentistry to keep their smile strong and healthy.

Give us a call at any time if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's oral health needs. We are always available to assist all our families; our job is to make your life easier!
