I would agree that it resembles Vistaite, woodpecker lips and all. The folks at richardsons ranch told me they glued up their spheres even when they look solid, easier than trying to glue the chunk back on later.

Have a couple visiting from Montana I am taking to some places to dig. Took them the other day to a copper-silver mine close to Las Vegas.
I've got about 20lb of Mexican Fluorite in my workshop and was really happy with it when I cut it open. I know sunlight can fade it over time. What about artificial light (like, say, in a windowless office space?) Will that fade it too? If so, how might I manage it so the colors are more stable? Would a UV coating help?

Thanks all.
I don't mind the pits too much- they are rocks, after all- and I really like the material.
Just wanted to make sure I wasn't biased.

rockhobbyguy: I am very heartbroken to hear Lortone is going out of business. My motor on my 45c just went out and needs to be replaced. Since theses are now seemingly unavailable for good, does anyone know of another brand of motor that would work with a Lortone 45c.
