SASHA Farm was founded by Dorothy Davies and Monte Jackson in the late 1980s. Their quaint family farm quickly turned into a sanctuary and they became vegan once they experienced such deep connections with their animals. In 2001, SASHA Farm Animal Sanctuary officially became a nonprofit. From there, Monte, Dorothy, staff, and volunteers created the oldest and largest farmed animal sanctuary in the Midwest.

SASHA farm has been deeply committed to providing the highest standard of care for our animals for 30+ years. Recent rumors alleging any mistreatment are completely untrue and are without merit. There have also been rumors we terminated volunteers. No volunteers were terminated, as we value their contributions and dedication to our sanctuary. Our animal care volunteers are a close-knit group and some have chosen to step away out of loyalty to staff that was let go. A new animal care manager was onsite the very next day as well as Monte, the founder of SASHA Farm, who has extensive knowledge and experience with animals and has been caring for them since the organization came to be. A new Executive Director has been hired to help promote and carry out the mission of our sanctuary. We also have regular vet visits to ensure the health of the animals. Our dedicated staff and volunteers work tirelessly to provide our animals a safe and nurturing environment. There is no lack of care for these animals in any department. We remain transparent and encourage anyone with concerns to visit our sanctuary at our upcoming events and see the animals thriving under the love and care of our staff members. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to reach out to us at info@sashafarm.org
Community is important to our operation. We embrace every encounter with supporters during our events, tours, and interactions on social media.
Every donation goes directly towards caring for our animal residents. Whether it is for our annual Hay Drive, purchasing new equipment, or funds for emergency rescues, your contributions support our goal of providing quality, lifetime care for our rescues.
Did you know that hay is our biggest expense? We spend around $50,000 annually on hay. Every donation helps us feed our animal residents, keeping them happy and healthy!
Donate NowAlong with feed, medical care is another massive yearly expense. SASHA has a large group of geriatric animals with a number of diverse ailments. We are in need of various supplies and medications on a daily basis.
Donate NowThough we can’t rescue every animal in need of sanctuary, we take in and care for as many as we can adequately manage. Oftentimes, this comes with a cost, as animals are abused, neglected, or abandoned. Your donation efforts help in preparing for the next animal to call SASHA Farm home!
