We are happy to be at SCIS. We trust that SCIS is the right environment. We have heard a lot of comparisons by talking to other parents and I think this environment at SCIS is not as strict compared to German schools. You have the freedom to explore yourself and develop your personality and get to be a part of a community. These are the advantages here. There are not many schools where a teacher would stay after school and spend so much of their own time and help you grow. People have this misconception about it being an easy education. I think the thought process is continually in our brain—to figure things out by ourselves and learn that your future is in your own hands.

At SCIS they really want to embrace the children, their feelings and teach them to enjoy learning. When we think of Shanghai, we immediately think of SCIS. We were talking about this today, ‘why are the students here at SCIS much closer than other schools,’ and we thought it was because it feels like we are more of a family here. We all come from different international backgrounds, so we all have to accept each other, and that’s what really helps us to become a closer community.

SCIS is special because of all the students and families from all around the world making it a very rich and culturally diverse community. It’s the very definition of being at an “International School".

If it wasn’t for SCIS then I wouldn’t be so knowledgeable about different people from around the world and their cultures. I wouldn’t have made these friends, and wouldn’t have learned the things I learned. I think SCIS has been really great in helping me become an open-minded and international individual, and I’m looking forward to keep on experiencing and learning new things every day.

The friendly, collaborative culture creates an ideal work environment and a nurturing setting for our own children to inquire, learn, and grow.

There were so many reasons I chose to teach at SCIS, but the instant feeling of community I got was truly the cherry on the top. That feeling occurred instantly within the staff and I was surprised by how fast it formed with students and parents, as well. I cannot imagine working at a more open, diverse, and collegiate campus.

SCIS has been really great in helping me become an open-minded and international individual, I’m looking forward to keeping on experiencing and learning new things every day!

Kids, especially two-year-olds, are so inspirational in the way that they approach learning​​​​​​.

When you look at SCIS from the outside, it’s just a school. To me though, I will always think of it as somewhere I’ve experienced, laughed, cried, succeeded, failed, and learned a lot. There’s a saying, “home is where the heart is.” That’s what SCIS is to me: Home.

The diversity that we have at SCIS is unparalleled – even amongst other Shanghai international schools. I’ve always been really grateful that, because of the makeup of my class, my closest friends represent 8 different countries. I really think SCIS has a unique makeup of students.

My fondest memory of SCIS was how supportive my teachers were through my junior and senior years. I basically crafted my last year and a half of high school towards what I loved doing. I put on shows and chose topics on music when it came to making essays or final projects. Everyone at SCIS was so encouraging through it all.
