Race Legs

Alpine Skiing

In this exhilirating first leg the racer will proceed to the top of the Eagle Express Chair wearing ski boots and using poles. At the top you put on skis and follow the marked course down to the change-over at the nordic exchange.

Nordic Skiing

With the Exchange Area at the bottom of the Hawk Chair, skiers will line up as directed by the race officials, ready to move the baton forward. The course is set for skate and classic skiing, with groomed tracks marking the route.

Running

The Run Exchange area is approximately 13 km from the Strathcona Parkway – Duncan Bay Logging Road intersection. Runners will set out to challenge themselves in this fast-paced part of the race, as they cover a variety of trail running terrains.

Mountain Biking

Highly competitive, the mountain biking leg is one of the most popular elements of the race. Hold onto your handlebars as mandatory bike check-in starts at 8:15 am and riders brace themselves for the challenge ahead.

Kayaking

During this indivudual event, competitors have to traverse the waters of Comox Lake as they try to break away from the pack. Kayaks must be unloaded at the Courtenay Fish and Game Club by 09:45 and participants are to remain ready to take to the water as soon as their teammates pull in.

Road Biking

The Road Bike leg of the course starts at Cumberland Lake Park and consists of a 25.2 km route on paved public roads and highways. It makes for another highly competitive part of the event, as this sport is hugely popular in the Comox Valley and beyond.

Canoeing

Next comes the team paddle in a more traditional craft. Teams launch and paddle to Comox Marina, staying outside of the first breakwater. If you capsize, right your boat and continue. If you manage to stay upright and find your rythm, that gold medal beckons.
