Thank you, Teachers
Our club is known for its learning opportunities and we have a history of being successful in this. Lessons are available for everyone from beginners to advanced players.
This is due to having great teachers who spend hours preparing material for each class. Several of the teachers do this pro bona (without pay). Those who do get paid are working for sub-minimum wages. They all due the for their love of the game and to support the club.
Our current teachers/presenters (in no particular order) are:
Merry Schainblatt
Merry has been teaching beginners and intermates on-line since Covid closed the club. She holds six classes a weak—yes, six—and has students from all over the world. Some classes are free, too. A great teacher, too!
Sheryl Hobbs
Sheryl is teaching her first series of classes. She is using the Intermediate Deck published by our club as the basic material. Note that Sheryl helped in the writing and editing of several of the Decks. Grab a copy of the Deck (available at the club for a discounted price of $12) and join her Friday morning classes. Sheryl has also agreed to serve on the club's Marketing Committee. Thanks!
Jack Brawner
Jack, our manager emeritus, is currently teaching a Thursday afternoon class on the key conventions that every player should know and understand. Jack is very knowledgeable about all aspects of our game and presents this knowledge in a clear, easy to understand manner.
Sharon Horton
Sharon (who also directs our Wednesday afternoon games) is teaching a series on slam bidding. Like Sheryl, she uses one of ours Decks to as the basic text for her classes. She is finishing her series on Slam Bidding this Wednesday morning. She will hold additional classes in the autumn. Sharon has years of experience as a presenter as can be seen in the meticulous preparation of you materials and presentations.
Bob Vollbracht
Bob (aka Dr. Bob) presents lessons designed for intermate and advanced players. His next class will be held on Monday June 3rd. Dr. Bob digs deeply into his subjects and his interest in the theory of game means that the students understand the reasoning behind the bids and plays. Understanding a bit of the theory helps one remember better than simply memorizing the "rules."
Freida Dohrman
Freida has been helping our newer players longer than any other of teachers. Her Friday morning Supervised Play is a hands on way for newer players to learn. Fun and informal.
Elaine Garofalo
Elaine directs two learning game: Tuesday afternoon is the Mentee-Mentor game and Wednesday morning she supervises the 0-50 masterpoint learning game. In addition, elaine teaches the Saturday morning Beginners lessons. She also is the person to contact when you need a partner and your regular victim (I mean partner) is not available.

Play & Learn with Jack $10
Jack's Dirty Dozen
Our Thursday “play and learn” class is going to switch gears for a little while. We have a number of players who would benefit GREATLY from a thorough lesson on the basic conventions that should be part of every player’s arsenal. So, I will be presenting “Jack’s Dirty Dozen”. Each class will have “bid ‘em up” sheets for practice AFTER the handout with a good explanation of the how & why of each convention. Most days, we will cover more than one topic. I expect to go about 2 – 2.5 hours.
