Where are you located?

We're in the very small town of Providence, Kentucky ~ we moved here about ten years ago.

There's lots of open spaces ~ mostly farms and forest ... and our little one-stoplight town located a few miles off the "main" two-lane highway.

Quiet and peaceful ... well, except in our shop!

Film & Stage Credits:

We've been fortunate to work with some outstanding costume designers, in a number of movies and theatre productions ~ from local dinner theatres, to grand-scale university presentations, to national and international venues.

Here's a sampling:

OUTLANDER - 2009 Release

This was another big project for us ~ we provided lots of leather armors and countless dozens of belts, swordbelts, baldrics, frogs, bracers, helms, and accessories.

Filmed in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, OUTLANDER stars James Caviezel with additional cast members Ron Perlman, Sophia Myles, John Hurt, Jack Huston ... and a mighty horde of Vikings!

CAMELOT - 2007 U.S. Tour

Starring the distinguished Michael York as King Arthur, CAMELOT launched its much-anticipated nationwide stage tour in January 2007.

"British stage and film legend Michael York stars in this magnificent new production of Lerner and Loewe’s timeless masterpiece.

"King Arthur’s enchanted kingdom, CAMELOT, is a place where honor and chivalry reign. But can this idyllic land survive when Queen Guenevere falls in love with Sir Lancelot?

"Re-discover the grandeur of one of history’s greatest love stories"

Beowulf & Grendel - 2005 Release

This was a big project for us ~ we provided numerous sets of leather armors plus belts, swordbelts, baldrics, and other pieces for "Beowulf and Grendel", starring Gerard Butler in the leading role, with additional cast members Stellan Skaarsgard, Ingvar Sigurdsson, Tony Curran, and Sarah Polley.

Filmed in Iceland in 2004 and directed by Sturla Gunnarson, "Beowulf & Grendel" premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2005.

Following its U.S. Premiere at the Palm Springs International Film Festival and a limited U.S. release, the DVD is now available in Canada and the U.S.

Wrath of Gods (Special Mention) ~ Jon Gustafsson
(Congratulations, Jon!!)

Wrath of Gods, Jon Gustafsson's award-winning documentary on the filming of "Beowulf & Grendel", is no ordinary making-of film. It is the seat-gripping story of (Director) Sturla Gunnarsson and crew's struggle to film their version of a classic hero tale.

Jon was hired to play one of Beowulf's warriors; so while along for the ride, with camera in hand, he captured it all and created an intimate portrait of film-makers in pursuit of a vision, fighting unbelievable odds in the wild and beautiful landscape of Iceland.

Wrath of Gods premiered at the Reykjavik International Film Festival. Later honored as the recipient of the prestigious Audience Award at the Oxford International Film Festival, it continues to be shown worldwide.

For a complete festival schedule or to purchase this truly extraordinary DVD, visit the official  Wrath of Gods  website.

SPAMALOT

Eric Idle brings Monty Python's "Holy Grail" to Broadway!

Directed by Mike Nichols and starring Tim Curry as King Arthur, SPAMALOT enjoyed a pre-Broadway run at Chicago's Shubert Theatre, then returned to New York for its Broadway debut in the Spring of 2005.

With long-running tours throughout the U.S. and special international engagements in Canada, Australia, and the U.K., SPAMALOT has enjoyed tremendous success ~ enchanting old fans and new.

We're happy to have played a "role" of our own, in helping to provide costume items for this terrific show.

Congratulations SPAMALOT ~
Winner of the 2005 Tony Award for Best Musical

What Is an Inner Bailey?

The first Norman castles consisted of a timber tower built on the flattened top of a high, round mound of earth called a "motte". At the base of the motte there was a large adjoining courtyard, or "bailey", also circular in shape.

The motte was accessible only by way of the bailey ~ connected by a long, upward-sloping bridge. The motte and its bailey were each surrounded by a deep ditch and a tall timber stockade.

A second stockade and ditch enclosed the entire structure, thus creating the highly defensible, figure-eight shaped "motte-and-bailey" castle.

The bailey housed the buildings necessary to support the castle in its role both as residence and fortress.

As the center of everyday life, the bailey housed a chapel, a hall, stables, storehouses, and kitchens. Often, it included gardens and areas for outside dining and entertainment. Militarily, the bailey also contained the forges and workshops of the blacksmiths, fletchers, and armorers.

Beginning in the mid-twelfth century, there was a transition of the castle from earthwork and timber to stone. The majority of the great stone keeps were raised upon the sites of the existing strongholds, and thick stone walls replaced the timber stockades.

With the emergence of more sophisticated siege warfare, architectural fortifications evolved ~ and the figure-eight keep-and-bailey was fully enclosed by yet another ring of walls and towers, thus creating an outer bailey as the first line of defense.

Attackers then faced the formidable task of first breaching the considerable defenses of the outer bailey, only to be confronted with the similar defenses of the inner bailey.

Thus, throughout the history of castle evolution, the inner bailey has played a vital and active dual role ~ functioning as a central gathering place in daily life, and as a defense of the castle keep during times of conflict.
