For young adults, both male and female, ages 14 (and have completed eighth grade) to 20, who share an attraction to a particular career, such as law enforcement, Learning for Life (a division of the Boy Scouts of America) has created the Exploring program. Many different law enforcement agencies sponsor explorer programs to educate participants to become future law enforcement officers or to have a career in law enforcement.

TLEEAA hosts a yearly State Explorer competition. Beginning in 2013, the competition has evolved into a multi-day event held at the University of Texas at Arlington. With the new multi-day format, TLEEAA is able to offer 96 teams from across the Southwest the ability to participate in 8 events over two days for a reasonable price, which includes meals and lodging.
